When the City Planning Commission voted on its final version of short-term rental regulation last month, Carol Gniady was proud of what the opposition she’s a part of was able to organize. They didn’t have the printed T-shirts like the better-funded Alliance for Neighborhood Prosperity, the local group advocating for loosening restrictions on short-term rentals. But opponents did get the word out to wear similar colors to signify their opposition. And they were able to fill about half the room to show the commission how many people were passionate about the issue. But now opponents are staring down a nearly $1 million local advertising buy the listing website Airbnb has scheduled less than a month before the City Council votes on rules that could change the landscape of short-term rentals and the tourism industry. And now Gniady, who directs the nonprofit Louisiana Landmarks Society, said the San Francisco company’s spending will be much more than local opponents can overcome….
