The Greek government will impose a tax on home owners who rent out their properties through short-term rental websites like Airbnb. Owners will have to register their properties with the government before advertising them on the Internet. The government plans to levy a tax of up to 5% on every booking. A proposal to this effect will be voted through next month, Greek media has reported. “We will ensure that properties are registered. Anyone posting on internet sites that they have property for rent will have to have registered it first. This is just part of the government action we’re taking to fight tax evasion, illegal trading and corruption,” Deputy Finance Minister Trifon Alexiadis was quoted as saying….
