The Real Estate Board of New York tired of the company’s inaction as landlords were fined for tenants’ home-sharing. When the politically powerful trade group for the city’s deep-pocketed real estate developers teamed up with hotel industry groups to fight Airbnb last week, sparks flew in Albany. In a last-minute blow to the tech giant, both the Republican Senate and Democratic Assembly passed a bill that punishes absentee tenants who advertise short-term rentals of their units. The bill now awaits Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s signature, and REBNY waits with bated breath….
