Here are some details:
- In compliance with Local Law 199 of 2019 set to reform the commercial waste carting system, DSNY has broken the five boroughs of NYC into 20 new “Commercial Waste Zones”.
- Each zone has three authorized commercial waste carters to provide businesses with service choices and competitive pricing. In addition to contracts with three authorized carters per zone, DSNY has also established contracts with five carters to operate citywide to pick up containerized waste from compactors and businesses that have loading docks
- All businesses serviced by a commercial waste carter will be required to sign a new written service agreement with a zone-authorized carter as their zone goes into effect.
- The first zone (Central Queens) will come online on September 3, 2024. This first zone will inform the rollout timeline and methodology of subsequent zones.
- Before the law goes into effect in each zone, every business in that zone will receive substantial direct and multilingual outreach from DSNY, providing ample time to transition service if required. This webinar is one of the first steps of that process.
