Mayor Mitch Landrieu said Monday (Oct. 17) that he wants the New Orleans City Council to pass regulations on short-term rentals that will allow the practice to occur “in some moderation.” But whether the mayor would ultimately support allowing people to rent out an entire home that they don’t occupy is not yet clear. He’s dispatched his deputy mayor, Ryan Berni, to negotiate with City Council members and short-term rental platforms like Airbnb and form a compromise that may not become clear until Thursday, when the City Council is scheduled to vote on Planning Commission recommendations….
