Airbnb has been accused of blocking unfavourable reviews of properties by guests who chose to leave early rather than endure another night in sub-standard accommodation. The homestay website has been refusing to allow guests to post warnings about holiday listings if they cut short their stay, treating it as though the trip had been cancelled before it started. This means that guests booking a property on the basis of a maximum five-star rating and glowing recommendations may be being misled because some negative reviews and low ratings have been blocked. The disclosure comes after The Sunday Times found that hundreds of British property owners could be breaking the planning rules, designed to protect the housing market, by turning houses into virtual “Airbnb hotels”….
