The Independence Party has released a bill memorandum supporting a measure designed to crack down the advertising of multi-family residential properties — a move seen as an effort to rein in the online rental company Airbnb. “Adopting this legislation would be a positive step in addressing the many concerns the State Independence Party sees with the illegal practice of short-term rentals of multi-family residential properties in New York City,” the memo states. “This bill further ensures that the individual or entity that advertises an illegal unit would be fined, instead of unfairly subjecting a building owner to penalty, regardless of who is responsible for the illegal activity.”…
