Airbnb, which, based on the number of listings posted on its site, is now the largest hospitality company in the world, faces regulatory battles in just about every major U.S. city, including New York. Critics, including some powerful hotel unions, say the rental site contributes to rising rents and creates rowdy transient traffic to residential neighborhoods. Airbnb has hired a staff of lobbyists, political organizers, and former political campaign managers to challenge this message, and they’ve spent as much as $8 million on a single local campaign….
