Hotel Association of NYC Foundation donates 20,000 masks & PPE gowns to Elmhurst Hospital in Queens

NEW YORK – HANYC Foundation, the charitable arm of the Hotel Association of New York City, continued its Covid-19 community outreach efforts with another donation of essential PPE for frontline health care workers, this time with a gift of 20,000 masks and 1,000 medical gowns to Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, N.Y.

The gift was made possible through a generous donation by Sunshine Insurance Group, owner of New York’s Baccarat Hotel, and Dr. Philip Wang, founder of United Rehab Center, and friends who delivered these on Wednesday. Also present were Hermann Elger, HANYC Foundation’s Chairman and Managing Director of Baccarat New York, Vijay Dandapani, President and CEO of the Hotel Association of New York City, Raymond Sun, Executive Asset Manager and Jia Hong Zhu of Baccarat Hotel New York. Wayne Zimmerman, Chief Operating Officer of Elmhurst Hospital accepted the donation.

This was the second donation in as many weeks by the HANYC Foundation which also gifted 5,000 N95 masks to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan on April 1.

At a time of unprecedented crisis, the Hotel Association of New York City, which represents nearly 300 member hotel owners and operators, is stepping up to help the city weather the Covid-19 pandemic despite an economic collapse that poses an existential threat to the hotel industry and the 50,000 New Yorkers it employs.

The Hotel Association and individual hotel owners have also been working around the clock with city and state government to make entire hotels available to frontline health care workers and as makeshift medical facilities to relieve New York City’s overburdened hospitals.
