New Orleans Advocate – City Council approves new short-term rental rules

Short-term rentals to tourists would be legalized in most areas of New Orleans, with some limitations, under a proposal that got preliminary approval from the New Orleans City Council during an often heated three-hour meeting Thursday afternoon. The final plan, hashed out by Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s administration, two of the major websites that list short-term rentals and members of the council, was publicly released just moments before debate started on the issue. The council voted 6-1 in favor of the regulations, with Councilman Jared Brossett voting no. The principles approved Thursday will now be codified in ordinances to be voted on at a later date along with rules governing how they will be enforced…
