COVID-19 FAQ and Safety Tips

  • On March 10, 2020, HANYC  had a call with representatives from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (“DOHMH”). In discussing the comparison of COVID-19 to SARS, it was explained that while COVID-19 is less severe and less lethal than SARS, it is spreading more easily. As a result, the DOHMH expects a larger number of mild infections, which will increase the demand for testing and for treating more serious cases. Read more about it here.
  • On March 16, 2020, the Mayor has used his executive powers to limit restaurants, bars and cafes to food sales and take out delivery with effect from Tuesday, March 17th at 9AM. This includes restaurants, bars and cafes in hotels. Hotels can still offer room service but food should be left at the door to avoid person to person contact.
  • On March 20, 2020, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced he is signing the “New York State on PAUSE” executive order, a 10-point policy to assure uniform safety for everyone. It includes a new directive that all non-essential businesses statewide must close in-office personnel functions effective at 8PM on Sunday, March 22.
